Kenan Sofuoglu has kicked off the fifth round of the 2013 World Supersport Championship as he means to go on by topping a damp first free practice session at Donington Park.

The Turk, who is playing catch up to key rival Sam Lowes after failing to score last time out at Monza, completed just four laps in the light rain, but did enough to emerge top with a time of 1min 35.966secs, around five seconds off the lap record.

Lorenzo Zanetti followed him up in second place, ahead of countrymen Raffaele de Rosa, Roberto Rolfo and Luca Scassa, while local hopes Jack Kennedy and Christian Iddon lifted themselves into the top ten in seventh and ninth.

Championship leader and home favourite Lowes, meanwhile, elected to stay in the pit lane for the time being in the hope first qualifying will yield more favourable conditions.

Elsewhere, rider changes include Alex Baldolini returning to Suriano Racing after quitting Team Lorini, while British Supersport standouts Glen Richards, Billy McConnell and Sam Hornsey will wild-card this weekend.
