WSS Donington: Lowes switches focus after Donington dominance

Following an utterly dominant performance at Donington Park, Sam Lowes says he will focus on consistency over the coming races to consolidate his healthy series lead.
Sam Lowes believes he can now afford to focus on consistency after a third World Supersport win of the season at Donington Park moved him 30 points clear at the top of the overall standings.

A year on from claiming a first WSS win at his home event, Lowes produced a peerless performance once again aboard the Yakhnich Yamaha to lead every lap and cross the line some 11 seconds clear of key rival Kenan Sofuoglu.

Coming on a weekend where he was dominant from start-to-finish, Lowes was thrilled with such a comprehensive performance on home soil, but says the time has now come for him to review his approach in coming races as he looks to maintain the advantage he has established.

“I wanted to win this race at any cost! Thanks a lot to my team and to Yamaha, they helped me to do this! After the warm-up we changed some settings and I didn't have to make too much effort to finish with such a good pace.

“Consistency from now on is the most important, I know we have to be satisfied with a 2nd or 3rd on the podium when it's too difficult to go for the win.”

Lowes's dominance at Donington Park was defined by the fact he completed all but the first and final laps in a lap time under 1min 32secs. As reference, only eight other riders would set a lap time below 1min 32secs during the entire race.
