SSTK: Canepa sets early pace in FP1

28 June 2013

Home rider Niccolò Canepa posted the fastest time in the first free practice session for the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup machines at Imola.

The Ducati Panigale rider put in a late lap of 1min 51.486secs to snatch the provisional fastest time from championship leader Sylvain Barrier.

The Frenchman seemed fairly comfortable despite missing out on the fastest time and after a solid session, was the only other rider to match Canepa with two laps in the 1min 51secs bracket.

Eddi La Marra completed the provisional front row, albeit over eight tenths of a second back of his teammate.

Leandro Mercado, Lorenzo Savadori and Ondrej Jezek were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, with Savadori keen to make up lost ground on the championship leader after his spill in Portim√£o.

Jeremy Guarnoni, placed fourth in the championship, struggled throughout to post competitive times and was a somewhat distant seventh.

Despite overnight showers the track dried sufficiently in time for the start of the Superstock session.
