Kenan Sofuoglu came out on top of a weather-affected first World Supersport free practice session at Silverstone, the reigning champion and his title rival Sam Lowes well ahead of their rivals.
With rain in the air and drops being felt at various points in the circuit, track action was scattered over the course of the FP1 session, with Sofuoglu's early time of 2min 09.926secs keeping him on top to the chequered flag.
Lowes was just a tenth further behind, the home favourite coming into the weekend eager to put more a cushion between himself and the Kawasaki rider.
Riding in his first WSS session since the Magny-Cours 2012, Ronan Quarmby was a superb third fastest on his return to action, the South African lifting the ProRace Honda into the top three with a late improvement.
Riding a third Intermoto Kawasaki alongside David Salom and Luca Scassa this weekend, Florian Marino upstaged his more experienced team-mates to set the fourth fastest time, while Christian Iddon was an impressive fifth best on the ParkinGO MV Agusta.
Salom, himself returning to action from injury, was sixth quickest, ahead of Kawasaki counterpart Kev Coghlan, Suzuka 8 Hours winner Michael van der Mark, Fabien Foret and Raffaele de Rosa.
A fairly uneventful session, PTR Honda's David Linortner was the only rider to come to grief with a fall at turn nine.
