Kenan Sofuoglu will take the advantage into qualifying for the ninth round of the 2013 World Supersport Championship after claiming provisional pole position at Silverstone.

Despite having to contend with rain flurries in FP1 and a lengthy stoppage in Q1 to clear an oil spill, Sofuoglu's name barely strayed from the top of the timesheets throughout the day, the Turk stealing the thunder from home favourite and key rival Sam Lowes.

The only rider to get below 2mins 09secs as he neared David Salom's lap record, Sofuoglu was two tenths up on Lowes, though the British rider didn't help his cause when he slid off at turn five with twenty minutes remaining.

Having been forced to skip the previous round in Russia, Riccardo Russo was straight back up to speed on the Puccetti Kawasaki, coming away with the third best time, while a late improvement from Sheridan Morais would get the PTR Honda team up into the upper echelons in fourth.

Florian Marino was fifth quickest, ahead of Intermoto Kawasaki team-mate David Salom, while the Hondas of Jack Kennedy, Raffaele de Rosa and Michael van der Mark headed up Fabien Foret in tenth position.

Elsewhere, both Christian Iddon and Roberto Rolfo were in top five contention for much of the session before slipping to 11th and 12th on their respective MV Agustas, while Kev Coghlan was 13th best. Ronan Quarmby, a surprise third fastest in FP1, could only manage 14th fastest on this occasion.

The only way you know you are doing good is when Sam is falling off his bike, keep up the intensity Kenan, Sam might snap and give you a good chunk of points. Hope you have the tires/setup to get the job done.
