On the weekend he can mathematically wrap up the 2013 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, Sylvain Barrier took a small step towards that objective by claiming by sixth pole position in seven attempts at the Nurburgring.
The reigning champion has mostly dominated proceedings in 2013, his five wins in seven races putting him 36 points ahead of Niccolo Canepa with just three races remaining this season. As such, should Barrier notch up another win from pole position in Germany, Canepa will need to finish no lower than fourth to keep his slimming title hopes alive.
Still, Canepa remains relatively well placed on the front row in third position, with MRS Kawasaki's Jeremy Guarnoni splitting the pair in second position.
Leandro Mercado heads up row two in fourth position, ahead of Matthieu Lussiana and Ondrej Jezek, while Christoffer Bergman, Romain Lanusse, Greg Gildenbuys and Lorenzo Savadori round out the top ten starting positions.
The round is notable for the absence of Eddi La Marra on the Barni Ducati after he was seriously injured in an accident during testing at Misano this week. Knocked unconscious in the crash, La Marra underwent head surgery and was duly put in an induced coma, where he remains. Doctors have described his condition as serious, but stable.
