Sam Lowes will start on pole position for the tenth round of the World Supersport Championship at the Nurburgring, despite barely turning a wheel all day.
Having set the pace in Q1 on Friday, Lowes was set for a battle with Kenan Sofuoglu to retain his top spot in Q2 after technical issues prevented him from setting a lap time during the morning FP2 session.
However, the arrival of rain to the Eiffel region would prevent anyone from getting close to their provisional lap times. Even so, though this would ensure the results from Q1 would stand for Q2 – thus confirming Lowes on pole position – it means he comes into the race having managed just a few wet laps throughout Saturday.
Potentially important for Lowes and Sofuoglu's title hopes, team-mates Fabien Foret and Vladimir Leonov will start in close company in third and fourth on their respective Mahi Kawasaki and Yakhnich Yamaha machines and could well play a tactical part in the race.
Lorenzo Zanetti joins Leonov on the second row, ahead of Jack Kennedy, while Kev Coghlan, Ronan Quarmby – who was second fastest in FP2 -, Roberto Tamburini and Christian Iddon complete the top ten.
