Sam Lowes has taken provisional pole position for the 11th round of the World Supersport Championship at Istanbul Park, ahead of title rival and local hero Kenan Sofuoglu.
Lowes, who was fastest aboard the Yakhnich Yamaha in FP1, was again in fine form as he moved to the top of the timesheets at the mid-way point of the Q1 session and set about lowering his best, the Briton eventually stopping the clock at exactly two minutes.
On the weekend he can wrap up the title provided he either out-scores Sofuoglu or finishes within four points of him, Lowes has a good chance to claiming the championship on his rival's home soil.
Making a late appearance to the session, Sofuoglu eventually worked his way up to second fastest, ahead of fellow Kawasaki rider Florian Marino, while early pace setter Roberto Tamburini maintained his decent start to the weekend on the Lorini Honda in fourth.
David Salom rounded out the top five, ahead of Italian duo Lorenzo Zanetti and Raffaele de Rosa, while Michael van der Mark, Kev Coghlan and Luca Scassa secured a provisional top ten presence in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.
Elsewhere, Roberto Rolfo headed up the MV Agusta challenge in 11th position, with Alex Baldolini the quickest Suzuki rider in 14th.
A less eventful session with fewer accidents and off-track moments, Vladimir Leonov was nonetheless a casualty of technical issues on the second Yakhnich Yamaha.
