Sam Lowes has taken pole position for the final round of the 2013 World Supersport Championship at Jerez, the newly-crowned champion seeing off the challenge of Roberto Rolfo and Kenan Sofuoglu in Q2.

Looking to conclude his WSS tenure on a high ahead of his much publicised switch to Moto2 in 2014, Lowes waited until the closing stages to make his pole position pitch, the 23-year-old surging ahead with a time of 1min 43.118secs.

It was enough to lift the Yakhnich Yamaha rider ahead of Rolfo, the Italian just four tenths shy of securing his and ParkinGO MV Agusta's maiden Supersport pole position. Despite this, the performance marks Rolfo's best qualifying performance of the year and reflects the recent good form of the F3 675 following team-mate Christian Iddon's run to the podium at Magny-Cours.

Deposed champion Sofuoglu will start third, putting him in a good position to secure the manufacturers' title for Kawasaki, while Lowes's in-form team-mate Vladimir Leonov will head up row two on the second of the Yakhnich Yamahas.

Completing an excellent day for MV Agusta, Magny-Cours standout Iddon starts in fifth place, ahead of Pata Honda's Michael van der Mark, while Alex Baldolini ensures five manufacturers are represented inside the top seven aboard the Suriano Suzuki.

Despite a crash, Lorenzo Zanetti gets underway from eighth place, ahead of Riccardo Russo and Sheridan Morais, while Danny Webb just misses out on a top ten start in 11th.
