Coghlan teases 'interesting change' for DMC in 2014

Kev Coghlan confirms he will remain with DMC Racing for the 2014 World Supersport Championship, but hints at an 'interesting change' yet to be revealed...
Kev Coghlan has teased a major announcement to be revealed in the coming week as he otherwise confirmed he will remain with DMC Racing in the World Supersport Championship this season.

Coghlan stepped up to the Supersport class in 2013 after a podium-winning year at Superstock 1000 level, the Scot impressing on Kawasaki ZX-6R machinery by regularly dicing for top six results.

Ending the season ninth overall with a best finish of third place at the Nurburgring, Coghlan was recently tipped by three-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu as a potential challenger for race wins in 2014.

Indeed, Coghlan has high hopes for 2014 having re-signed with DMC Racing, particularly with regards to an 'interesting change' that he hints will be made public in the coming week.

"I will be staying in World Supersport with DMC Racing. The team have shown a great support for me over the last two years and I'm really pleased to continue working with them. From last year I hope to continue improving as a rider and build on the good results we had.

“There will be an interesting change to the team for this season, soon to be announced, and we hope to be stronger than ever. My focus for 2014 will to be more consistent. Last year we were very fast on occasions and had a few good results, this season we need to be regular top 5 finishers and hope to bag a few more podiums."

DMC stepped up to Supersport competition in 2013 as part of a collaboration with former title-winners Lorenzini, though the Italian firm – nor the existing Kawasaki machinery – is mentioned here.

I reckon the commentators will have a hard time telling people the R6 is a slow/old bike if it is wheeled out again, with limited to full support from Yamaha (like Lowes). as advertised: "This is Sam Lowes Yamaha R6 built by Yakhnich Motorsport with factory Yamaha backing, ridden in 2013 World Superbike Championship. Sam Lowes claimed 2013 World Supersport Championship Title with this bike."
