Kennedy 'right on the pace', Wilairot 'comfortable'
21 January 2014
New CIA Insurance Honda World Supersport rider Jack Kennedy left the two-day Portimao test 'right on the pace'.
With a mixture of wet and dry weather, the Dubliner was able to find a comfortable setting on his 2014 race bike and is now keen to get to Australia for the next test ahead of the opening round on February 23rd.
“That was a really good two-day test and I am very happy with my CIA Insurance Honda race bike, team staff and the potential we have for the season,” said Kennedy, who finished seventh overall on a Rivamoto Honda last season. “I am loving being back on a bike and can't wait to get out again.”
No official lap times were available, but team boss Simon Buckmaster is confident Kennedy is 'on the pace'.
“It has been a really good test,” said Buckmaster. “Jack got more and more comfortable as the laps went by. He is leaving with a good base setting and we are all really happy. There are no official times as it is a test but we have looked at what other teams are doing and we know we are right on the pace.”
Fellow PTR Honda racer Ratthapark Wilairot continued adapting to WSS machinery as he prepares to make a fresh start following seven seasons in grand prix.
The Thai star had to learn about his new bike, team and circuit during the two days, but and ended the test less than one second behind Kennedy.
“There was much for me to learn in this test - everything in fact,” said Wilairot. “My Core PTR Honda is very good and I am much more comfortable on it now after two days of riding - but there is also more to come from riding and understanding it.
“My times were good and now I am looking forward to the next test in Australia ahead of the opening round.”
