Michael van der Mark and Lorenzo Zanetti say they are aiming high for the 2014 World Supersport Championship following a successful debut season in the category last year.
The young pair made their Supersport debuts in 2013 with Pata Honda, van der Mark progressing after winning the 2012 Superstock 600 title, while Zanetti made his move following a season at World Superbike level.
Though neither were quite able to return the Ten Kate Racing-squad to winning ways, both riders proved admirable front-runners alongside more experienced rivals, with van der Mark and Zanetti ending their respective seasons fourth and fifth respectively with four podiums between them.
Indeed, following a year that also saw him contribute to Honda's win at the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hours, Dutchman van der Mark is looking forward to the season ahead.
“We have already tested the CBR600RR and there have been a lot of improvements which we noticed immediately. The team has overcome some of the big problems we had last year with some new software updates so we can head into the new season with some confidence.
“I was very happy with my first season in World Supersport and to get on the podium in my first race at Phillip Island was fantastic. So, it's great to be back with the team again and I can't wait to start racing again.”
Zanetti, meanwhile, feels he is well positioned heading into the season having come on strong during the latter stages of 2013 once he found his form on 600cc machinery.
“I think I improved a lot as a rider last year after quite a difficult start. The bike has definitely improved as well, especially in the electronics, and I think we have a good way forward for this coming season. I am really looking forward to working with this team again and to challenging for the podium in every race.”
