Kenan Sofuoglu has set the early standard at Phillip Island as official pre-season testing for the World Supersport Championship got underway in Australia.
The Turk, who heads into the season seeking a record-breaking fourth career WSS title after losing out to Moto2-bound Sam Lowes in 2013, was the dominant force throughout, steadily increasing his advantage over the 110mins session.
Eventually stopping the clock with a best time of 1min 33.621secs, the Mahi India Kawasaki rider was more than six tenths faster than PATA Honda's Michael van der Mark, who spent much of his session attempting to break down the margin in front of him.
Behind him things were more fluid up to the chequered flag, with Jack Kennedy and Fabio Menghi disputing third position before Vladimir Leonov lifted himself to the position aboard the Yakhnich-prepared MV Agusta F3 675.
Menghi, whose best result was a 14th place last season, was fourth fastest, ahead of new Lorini Honda signing Riccardo Russo and Kennedy, this season riding the PTR-prepared CIA Insurance Honda.
Getting to grips with Yamaha machinery around the Australian venue, Kev Coghlan was seventh quickest, ahead of Lorenzo Zanetti, top Supersport rookie and former British Superbike rider PJ Jacobsen and Roberto Tamburini on the Puccetti Kawasaki.
