Title favourite Kenan Sofuoglu continues to lead the way following third free practice for the World Supersport Championship class at Phillip Island.

The Turkish rider, who was quickest overnight and topped all four pre-season test sessions at the Australian venue earlier in the week, maintained his command over the opposition, even if his margin was whittled down to a mere hundredth of a second.

Michael van de Mark was the rider on the other end of that tiny margin, the Dutchman getting closer to Sofuoglu than anyone else has managed to do so far this year.

Behind him, PJ Jacobsen continued his strong showing on the Intermoto Kawasaki as he looks increasingly capable of a podium challenge on his WSS debut, while fourth place Kev Coghlan is another rider looking well placed to battle for a rostrum come Sunday.

Another rider impressing ahead of his World Supersport debut, Ratthapark Wilairot ended the session in fifth position despite losing time with an accident mid-way through the session. Despite this, he was quicker than MV Agusta duo Jules Cluzel and Vladimir Leonov in sixth and seventh, while Raffaele de Rosa, Roberto Tamburini and Riccardo Russo rounded out the top ten.

Elsewhere, the British Supersport-based Smiths Triumph pairing are creeping up the timesheets, with wild-cards Graeme Gowland and Billy McConnell progressing to 11th and 14th respectively.
