Jules Cluzel denied Kev Coghlan a clean sweep of practice sessions to lead after the opening day of World Supersport free practice at Motorland Aragon.
The Frenchman, who was a surprise winner last time out at Phillip Island as he took MV Agusta to a popular victory in an otherwise chaotic race, nipped to the front late on in the FP2 session to deny Coghlan who had set the pace in FP1 and much of FP2
Indeed, with Coghlan commanding FP1 by almost a second, FP2 would prove a much closer affair with the top three split by just a couple of tenths, Michael van der Mark following up in third position.
Florian Marino and Lorenzo Zanetti completed the top five, with Kenan Sofuoglu bouncing back to sixth position having spent much of the morning on the sidelines with technical issues on his MAHI Kawasaki.
Second quickest in the morning, PJ Jacobsen slipped to seventh this afternoon, ahead of Honda trio Ratthapark Wilairot, Riccardo Russo and Jack Kennedy.
Elsewhere, there was poor fortune for Cluzel's Yakhnich MV Agusta team-mate Vladimir Leonov after his F3's engine expired mid-way through the session.
