Kenan Sofuoglu moved to the head of the timesheets during second Friday practice for the Italian WSS round at Imola.
Lorenzo Zanetti has led morning practice ahead of championship leader Florian Marino courtesy of a 1m 52.284s lap, but that was soon broken by MAHI Kawasaki's Sofuoglu in the afternoon session.
The triple WSS champion, fourth in FP1, remained the only rider under 1m 52s and concluded the day with a 0.346s advantage over on-form DMC Panavto-Yamaha rider Kev Coghlan.
Zanetti trimmed 0.150s off his morning best to narrowly fend off Pata Honda team-mate and Assen winner Michael VD Mark for third while, after missing the morning session, Jules Cluzel restored MV Agusta home pride with rapid progress to fifth (+0.548s).
Marino was one of only three riders not to improve this afternoon, finishing FP2 in eighth place (1.061s) and dropping the Kawasaki Intermoto rider from second to sixth (+0.717s) on combined times.
San Carlo Puccetti Kawasaki's Roberto Tamburini was the next best highest Italian after Zanetti in seventh overall and the final rider within one-second of Sofuoglu's pace.
Between Tamburini and Marino this afternoon was Irishman Jack Kennedy (CIA Insurance Honda) while Marco Bussolotti (Lorini Honda) and PJ Jacobsen (Intermoto Kawasaki) completed the top ten.
Lap times were incredible close outside of the top five, with Tamburini to twelfth place Raffaele de Rosa (CIA Insurance Honda) covered by a mere 0.244s this afternoon.
