World Supersport Championship leader Michael van der Mark has begun his Donington Park weekend as he means to go on by topping first free practice from Kenan Sofuoglu.
Moving into the lead of the WSS standings after finishing second last time out at Imola, the Assen winner moved to the top with a 1min 31.761secs lap, putting him just under a tenth ahead of MAHI Kawasaki's Sofuoglu, the Turk eager to recover ground this weekend after suffering another DNF in Italy.
Former Britishi Supersport front runner Jack Kennedy turned in the third fastest time on the PTR-prepared CIA Insurance Honda, ahead of leading British contender Kev Coghlan on the DMC Panavto Yamaha, while erstwhile championship leader Florian Marino was fifth.
Leading MV Agusta rider Jules Cluzel was sixth best, with Imola race winner, Roberto Tamburini, Raffaele de Rosa and Marco Bussolotti completing the top ten.
Christian Gamarino, meanwhile, was a faller on the GO Eleven Kawasaki, as was Vladimir Leonov on the second Yakhnich MV Agusta.
