Kenan Sofuoglu was left ruing the loss of another potential World Supersport win at Donington Park after mistaking a piece of debris getting jammed on his bike for a potential technical issue.

The Turk, who has suffered a series of technical issues on his MAHI Kawasaki this season - not least at Imola, where he was leading -, came to Donington Park eager to close down the gap to the front of the field. However, while he made a strong start to lead early on, he would 'mysteriously' slow mid-way through the race and drop back to fourth place.

Anticipating another technical problem after smoke appeared from the bike and it started to slow, Sofuoglu eased back through caution but, having slipped back to sixth, got back up to speed to finish the race fourth.

It would later turn out that a piece of debris had gotten caught between the front wheel and the bike, prompting the smoke, a freak issue that leaves Sofuoglu now 52 points off the championship lead.

"It was another disappointing day for me because I was making a gap and if I needed to I could have gone half a second faster. I was just watching my pit board and they showed me that I was keeping the gap, then growing the gap. I was ahead by one second and everything was going good.

"Then I realised there was a problem. I was not sure what it was but I had to look down to see and to do that I had to slow down. I could smell something burning and felt the bike was being held back. I had to continue to get some points and after about three laps it cleared and I could push again.

"I could not catch the front guys again even though I was going a little faster. When you know you can win all these races but I get a different problem I cannot get a good result. It is very frustrating."
