Local favourite Lorenzo Savadori has ended the first day of FIM Superstock 1000 Cup free practice with the fastest time, ahead of his Barni Ducati rivals.

The Italian skipped to the head of the timesheets during the latter half of the session, his time of 1min 40.011secs lap time edging out Leandro Mercado on the Barni Ducati by just 0.022secs.

Indeed, though Ondrej Jezek in third made it a familiar top three, lap times remained relatively close with the top ten covered by little more than a second.

Fabio Massei made it three Ducati riders inside the top four, while British rider Kyle Smith made the biggest gains between the practice sessions, leaping from outside the top ten into fifth place.

Returning to SSTK1000 action this weekend with Motoracing BMW, former WSBK rider Federico Sandi was sixth fastest after FP2, ahead of Federico D'Annunzio, David McFadden, Kevin Calia and Romain Lanusse.
