Jules Cluzel has given MV Agusta another World Supersport pole position on home soil by going comfortably fastest in qualifying at Misano.
The Frenchman – who also started from the front at Imola and also last time out at Sepang – left it late to make his move, with Kenan Sofuoglu seemingly on course for pole position having led for much of the 45min session, a crash in the final stages notwithstanding.
However, a flurry of quick laps in the final minutes would see Cluzel become the only rider to break 1min 39secs , putting four tenths up on the competition. Pole position for MV Agusta comes on the weekend it announced it is taking his WSS and WSBK efforts in-house following a split with Yakkhnich.
Another late improver, championship leader Michael van der Mark will start in second position aboard the PATA Honda, while Raffaele de Rosa gets his first-ever Supersport front row with a fine run to third on the Core PTR machine.
Sofuoglu would have to make do with fourth in the end after his crash scuppered his chances to improve, with Ratthapark Wilairot claiming his best qualifying of the season in fifth, while Lorenzo Zanetti made it four Hondas in the top six in sixth.
Title contender Florian Marino starts in seventh place, just ahead of team-mate PJ Jacobsen, while Roberto Tamburini and Jack Kennedy round out the top ten, the latter doing so despite a crash.
