Kenan Sofuoglu insists he is working hard to get his 'confidence back' on the MAHI Kawasaki as another lacklustre performance at Misano leaves him almost out of World Supersport title contention just half way into the year.
Though the Turk has been predominantly hampered by costly technical issues at times in 2014, he has nonetheless also been consistently out-performed by the likes of Michael van der Mark and Jules Cluzel on the PATA Honda and MV Agusta respectively.
Eager to recover some ground from his rivals in Misano, where he was a winner the last time WSS raced there in 2012, Sofuoglu began brightly from the second row but would gradually fade to finish off the podium into fourth.
Though good points in isolation, he has nonetheless lost more points to the leaders and with the first half of the 2014 season over he is now 68 points adrift of the overall lead.
“The race result disappointed me because my race pace was quite good even if earlier in the weekend I did not have such a good feeling on the front, as we had a chattering problem.
“We had an improvement with that in the race and in the last sector it was better than it had been all weekend. In the race it seems when we found something in that area we missed out a little in another area.
“I had a bit of a corner entry issue all through the race and the others were faster. I tried my best to stay with them but it was clear they could go faster than me. Now, step-by-step, the team is improving the bike and the settings but I cannot say I am on good form at the moment. I am trying my best to get my confidence back but for sure we are fighting to get a good result.”
