The under pressure Kenan Sofuoglu has begun his World Supersport Championship weekend as he means to go on by topping first free practice at Portimao.

The three-time champion – who looks increasingly out of the title fight having won just a single race in 2014 -, was fastest throughout the FP1 session in Portugal, Sofuoglu gradually improving to a best of 1min 46.400secs on the MAHI Kawasaki.

Championship leader Michael van der Mark ran him close in second place aboard the PATA Honda, just 0.054secs behind, while his closest title rival Jules Cluzel was third best for MV Agusta.

Jack Kennedy turned in the fourth fastest time, ahead of Kev Coghlan and Lorenzo Zanetti, while Massimo Roccoli, Roberto Rolfo, Raffaele de Rosa and PJ Jacobsen rounded out the top ten.
