Lorenzo Savadori kept his cool when it mattered to lead a five-way fight for victory at the chequered flag as he strengthened his grip on the 2015 Superstock 1000 series.

Although he started from pole position and led each of the race's 15 laps, Savadori was made to fight all the way for the 25 points as held off strong challenges from Kev Coghlan and Raffaele De Rosa.

Indeed De Rosa seemed intent on ending his 2015 winning drought in front of his home fans, riding aggressively and at times clearly on the limit, evidenced when suffering a frightening moment just three laps into the race.

It seemed as thought the two Italians would initially contest the top two positions until Coghlan and Savadori's Nuova M2 Aprilia team-mate Kevin Calia joined them, making it a four-way shootout for the podium.

While De Rosa carried a big threat, Savadori would have been excused for keeping a close eye on title rival Roberto Tamburini, making his way through the field after a disappointing qualifying.

Tamburini ended the first lap in eighth but gradually made his way towards the front group. By the time he had moved past Calia on the eleventh lap Coghlan's push towards the front was fading, the Scot unable to stay ahead of De Rosa when the momentum appeared to be behind him.

From there Coghlan struggled to maintain his pace, dropping off the group in the closing stages as De Rosa's concentration switched to maintaining second position from the advancing Tamburini, allowing Savadori crucial breathing space.

Savadori eventually won by just over half a second, extending his championship lead over Tamburini to 34 points with just 50 left to play. De Rosa's twenty points weren't enough to maintain his hopes of collecting championship honours as the Althea Ducati man slipped to 55 behind the leader.

With Calia collecting a strong fourth ahead of the fading Coghlan, Jeremy Guarnoni came home in sixth while Christoffer Bergman placed seventh.

Starting from second Ondrej Jezek finished a disappointing eighth, the Barni Ducati man never able to stay with the leaders.
