A flurry of fast late laps from Jordi Torres has seen him top the timesheets in first free practice for the final round of the World Superbike Championship in Qatar.

Riding the bike that dominated last year's event - and led to Sylvain Guintoli snatching the title from Tom Sykes -, Torres sprung to the head of the order in the closing stages with a 1min 58.744secs lap.

Denying new champion Jonathan Rea, the Ulsterman nonetheless led a Kawasaki 2-3 in front of Sykes as they bid to end the manufacturer's triumphant year on another high note.
