Sheridan Morais has secured his first World Supersport pole position in a Yamaha domination in qualifying at the Lausitzring.

The South African rider produced an early flying lap of 1m 40.440s to set the standard to match using the new Yamaha YZF-R6 for the first time for Kallio Racing Yamaha which would remain unbeaten by his rivals despite the gap being slashed away.

With four-tenths of a second over Kenan Sofuoglu in a provisional second place, Federico Caricasulo on the GRT Yamaha closed to 0.065s but couldn’t quite match Morais on the customer Yamaha. Morais’s Kallio Racing Yamaha team-mate Niki Tuuli rediscovered some form to complete the front row in third.

Jules Cluzel enjoyed a relatively low-key qualifying to secure the front of the second row on the CIA Landlords Insurance Honda with Sofuoglu shuffled down to fifth for Puccetti Kawasaki but ahead of World Supersport title rival Lucas Mahias on the GRT Yamaha.

Luke Stapleford on the Profile Racing Triumph has qualified seventh ahead of new Vamag MV Agusta signing Lorenzo Zanetti who has replaced Phillip Island race winner Roberto Rolfo. Kyle Smith completes row three on the Team Lorini Honda ahead of Hanner Soomer on the WILSport Racedays Honda in tenth.
