Who will be top local rider at Donington?
Much like its Superbike counterparts, fans will have plenty to cheer on in the World Supersport Championship class this weekend, with four local riders bidding to make it a podium sweep at Donington Park.
A combination of youth and experience will see the battle for honours come down to Sam Lowes, Gino Rea, James Ellison and Chaz Davies.
Lowes arrives at Donington Park on the back of his superb performance at Phillip Island, one that almost saw him begin his full-time WSS career at Parkalgar Honda with a victory.
That performance makes him a favourite for overall honours this weekend, though it is worth noting he didn't visit Donington Park during his title-winning British Supersport campaign in 2010.
By contrast, PTR stablemate James Ellison has fond memories of Donington Park having won his first British Superbike race there in 2009, while he also has the notable credit of securing a World Superbike fastest race lap in 2008 aboard the privateer Hydrex Honda. Fully recovered from a knee injury, he is set to be a stronger threat here than in Australia.
Two riders eager to bounce back from disappointment are Chaz Davies and Gino Rea, both of whom failed to score in Australia. Davies displayed excellent pre-puncture pace on the ParkinGO Yamaha at Phillip Island, while race winning team-mate Luca Scassa would show what was capable on the former title-winning R6s.
Rea, meanwhile, is bidding to repeat his Silverstone podium at Donington Park, though he will be hampered by the thumb injury that he is still recovering from.
Each is expected to be competitive in a grid that will be touching 30, but who do you consider the top local hope…
