Sam Lowes has brought his World Supersport Championship winning season to a perfect conclusion by scoring a sixth win of the season at Jerez over arch rival Kenan Sofuoglu.

As has been the case for much of the season, Lowes and Sofuoglu were locked in battle for much of the race with the Turk leading initially from the opening bend before Lowes nosed ahead for the first time on lap nine.

Holding station for the next seven laps, Sofuoglu proceeded to make his move for the win on lap 16 but when Lowes shuffled his way back into the lead with two laps remaining, he would simply pull away from his rival over the final revolution.

One final battle between the two iconic rivals, though the race was never going to decide the outcome of the title, since the pair came into the event with five successes apiece this year, the race victor would at least end the season with the edge in terms of wins.

As it happens, Lowes would reel off a fairly comfortable victory for Yakhnich Yamaha, concluding a hugely successful title-winning year ahead of his much-anticipated switch to the Moto2 World Championship next season.

Despite losing out on the riders' title, Sofuoglu's second place was enough to ensure Kawasaki wrapped up a second consecutive manufacturers'. The Turk is expected to stay with Mahi Kawasaki in World Supersport next season.

Having run with the leaders initially, front row starter Roberto Rolfo was able to maintain a podium result to the end, the Italian scoring a third rostrum success for MV Agusta at the end of what has been a relatively successful return to international competition for the Italian marque.

Two more riders confirmed as staying in World Supersport next year, Michael van der Mark and Lorenzo Zanetti ended their seasons with fourth and fifth positions – results reflected in the overall standings -, while Riccardo Russo held off Kawasaki counterparts Kev Coghlan and Sheridan Morais for sixth position.
