sad state of affairs. new circuits, bring new conditions, bring new unforeseen challenges. fwiw, we've actually run races in MUCH worse conditions. but always bad when they conspire to take a life. RIP.
unfortunately, this happens on clear blue days as well. jonesy as mentioned, but tomizowa, SIMO, lenz at Indianapolis, the Honda employee (Gette) at VIR, etc. I was present for those last 2. it's not something ya ever get used to. nor should you.
a rider off his kit and on the ground, with an entire GRID speeding towards him is literally in the "Hands of God" at that moment. nothing man can do or invent can afford 100% protection against something like that.
