Robert Dahlgren has set himself a target to get into the points – without actually scoring any points – ahead of his guest World Touring Car appearance this weekend.
Returning to his 'second home' having raced here in the past, the former British Formula Ford Champion, is making another appearance in the series following his debut at the wheel of a Volvo S60 at Anderstorp last season.
Finishing inside the top eight on that occasion, Dahlgren is well placed to do the same this weekend, albeit at the wheel of the Volvo C30 he races in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, after qualifying tenth on the grid.
Given the car, which is run by Polestar Racing but receives funding from Volvo itself, is still in the midst of a development programme, Dahlgren is pleased to be competitive on the WTCC scene once again, not least because the car is so different to the one it replaces.
“This is something I have wanted to do for a while,” he told
Crash.net Radio. “It was great to do experience it for the first time in Sweden and to now get back to England, my second home, is so much fun.
“It is a lot more fun to drive! The car is a lot smaller and it handles better in slower corners but we are still developing it in medium and high speed corners. The car is in the early stages of development, but it will be quick in the future though.”
Looking ahead to the weekend, Dahlgren is eyeing a top eight finish once again, although he is actually ineligible for points.
“If I get in the points – but not actually in the points – will be good enough for me this weekend.”
