BMW celebrate home double

BMW was able to celebrate a double win on home soil at Oschersleben after Augusto Farfus and Felix Porteiro took a win apiece in the latest rounds of the World Touring Car Championship.

Farfus emerged as a dominant winner of the opening race of the weekend having made a good start from fifth on the grid to quickly move into the lead of the race.

The Brazilian was then able to pull away as the field jostled for position behind and came home more than seven seconds clear of second placed Rob Huff.

"It is a very important victory for BMW here as it is their home race," he said. "We knew that the pace was good as the practices showed. In qualifying we had a few problems which stopped me being able to brake properly so we did the best we could.

"I had a great start, managed to avoid the clashes and I was lucky. The SEAT of Tarquini blocked the Chevrolet drivers for a few laps and so I was able to build up a gap. When Rob (Huff) had passed him, there was a bit of a gap between us so I was able to keep pushing, but it was very hard to keep my focus as I was out there alone."

Porteiro led the second race from pole thanks to his eighth place finish in race one, and he held off pressure from the SUNRED SEAT of Tom Coronel to ensure a double for BMW on home soil and vital points in the battle with SEAT for the title.

"It was a not an easy race for me today as Tom Coronel was pushing all the way through," he said. "It has been a perfect day for me. The car was perfect and everything went really well. The others caught me when I had a problem at the second corner, there was a lot of oil and debris on the track and I had to go to the outside and I lost a couple of seconds, but I still won so that is what matters.

"Maybe if I had not made the mistake then I would not have had Coronel following me so closely."
