Russia chasing calendar slot

Representatives of the World Touring Car Championship are to visit the Russian capital Moscow to discuss the possibility of the country playing host to a round of the series.

KSO general manager Marcello Lotti will be joined by Rickard Rydell, Alain Menu and James Thompson for the trip, while Jaap van Lagen and Viktor Shapovalov – both of whom drive for the Russian Bears Motorsport team – will also be in attendance.

As ambassadors for the WTCC the group will visit the Moscow International Motorshow on Sunday before attending a special meeting on Monday at the Ritz Hotel with the mayor of Moscow and the president of the Russian Sporting Authority to discuss the possibility of a Russian race in the coming years.

"This is definitely a priority for us and our car manufacturers," Lotti said. "We are working to include Russia in the 2010 calendar.

“However, everything depends on the completion of an FIA homologated racetrack suitable to host the championship."
