A second podium of the season came at Brands Hatch on what was another double points scoring weekend in Britain and he also scored in both events in his home round at Monza.
After retiring from the opening race in Macau, Zanardi then ensured his season finished with a solid fifth place after he avoided the carnage that affected a number of drivers.
While he finished only 13th in the standings, Zanardi's achievements continue to act as an inspiration for his many adoring fans - and indeed for his fellow competitors.
