Menu pleased with more Brands success

Alain Menu admitted he was delighted to secure another victory fro Chevrolet in his 'home' round of the World Touring Car Championship season at Brands Hatch.

Menu, a winner at the British circuit on a number of occasions in the past in both the BTCC and WTCC, qualified on pole position at the wheel of his Chevrolet Cruze but briefly lost the lead at the start to teammate Rob Huff.

However, the Swiss star managed to find a way back into the lead and wasn't headed for the remainder of the race as he picked up victory for the RML-run squad.

Unfortunately for Menu, the second race didn't go to plan, when a spin at Paddock Hill Bend on the opening lap saw him drop to the rear of the field and with damage to his car, he had to settle for 18th place.

“In race one, our strategy worked out perfectly,” he said. “We had planned that at the start I would control Priaulx, our most dangerous opponent, while Rob would take the lead. Then I would re-take position one, if I was faster than Rob.

“That is exactly what happened and Rob gave me strong support keeping everybody behind us and securing another great result for the team.

“In race two, I was squeezed in the first corner, with no other option than going into the gravel and the grass. Something must have been bent there because the car was under-steering a lot after that incident.”

Chevrolet motorsport chief Eric Neve was delighted with another win for the team on British soil and also happy to see Huff increase his championship points with a double top eight finish.

“With this fourth success of Alain and Chevrolet at Brands Hatch, we have won every time the WTCC has visited the Kent track,” he said. “I think this is unprecedented in the championship, certainly as far as drivers are concerned.

“It's great to see the Cruze winning on a traditional circuit and it's great to see Rob increasing his point toll and being well placed in the race for the title.”
