Larini penalised for Van Lagen collision

Nicola Larini and Augusto Farfus have felt the wrath of the stewards following the two World Touring Car races at the Oschersleben following two separate on-track incidents.

Of the two, Larini was punished most heavily, the Italian being handed an equivalent drive-through penalty of 30secs after being blamed for the accident that prevented Jaap Van Lagen and LADA scoring their first ever WTCC points.

Larini was attempting to pass the Dutchman on the final corner of the last lap when he was judged to have unfairly made contact with him, the impact sending the Priora into the gravel trap and down to 11th position.

Although no action was taken between the races, Larini loses his fifth place and has been demoted to 15th place. Even so, the Chevrolet driver was still able to take up his fourth position on the race two reverse grid, which he converted to a sixth place finish and three points.

Larini was also given a ten place grid drop for the next race, although this is suspended for three races.

Farfus, meanwhile, has been reprimanded after SEAT lodged a protest over his conduct whilst attempting to overtake Yvan Muller. However, a decision was made not to give him a penalty, meaning Farfus' fifth place – a position higher than where he finished following Larini's penalty – stands.

it has been reported on german tv, that seat protested farfus for the incident with the tyres. it was the view of the stewards that it was mullers own fault, but they opted to warn farfus for a couple of wheel banging moments earlier on the lap. seat wanted their nearest challenger to be excluded. poor show!
