I feel that the safety car driver and race director should be fined and fired that was abysmal way the safety car situation was handled or should I say not handled

stayed on the left and waited for an opening. And then, after the leading drivers had slowed down, he should have taken the front position. It was reckless driving by the official.

There is no excuse to go all the way to the left as suddenly, especially as it a tricky pitlane exit (which he should know). ... i agree with you JOAO on that point...but theres is no excuse for not seeing the SC board and slow down....my opinion is 50 50...and believe..dont being "prepopente"..i know PAU and i know whath im saying...about eduardo freitas the FIA race director...believe certanly we will penalize the SC driver..im sure of thath..:)..but..for rest of the posters...eduardo freitas is a big profissional...only dont know thath who is only on TV or online gamming....
at least..happy not anybody injury..

this is races...not futebol...
best regards

The latest seems to be that the safety car was told to stand by - it was never given permission to enter the track which makes the whole thing even more unbelievable - if this is true then it means that the safety car driver took it upon himself to exit the pit lane, cut across the blend line and park himself on the racing line in front of Engstler

That was simply remarkable to watch. In response to those that said Engstler was going too fast, the speed differential between him and an almost stationary safety car probably makes it look like he is going quicker than he actually is.

My question is why on earth did the SC pull out straight into the middle of the track at slow speed on the exit of a blind bend?

The pit lane exit is designed to help drivers filter onto the circuit safely. This should be more important for the Safety Car because it isn't as quick as a racing car.

Bad to watch and I'm sure it was just an error, but given the amount of driver penalties handed out at Pau, the FIA should be looking at themselves too.

As a marshal i see fault on both parts

The safety car not seem to join safely but the driver is directed by race control to go we are all human after all and no matter how experienced you are errors do happen

As for the driver, there are new regs this season where when the safety car is deployed the sc boards and yellow flags go both ways around the circuit and neutralises it immediately, How many boards must he have passed? He also did not seem to slowing any and the yellow flags do actually have a meaning :)

As an ex marshal I feel that those who think the safety car was most at fault do not understand the flag signals. Waved yellow indicate "extreme danger slow down and BE PREPARED TO STOP"

White Board with SC on it indicates Safety Car on circuit. At least 2 Waved yellow and SC boards were passed before the crash.
Whether or not the safety car driver cut into the race car's line is of little importance the Race car driver should have been prepared to fall in behind the safety car after passing the start finish straight. In any event the signal for the safety car to go probably came from race control.
Too many times marshals lives are put at risk from drivers who do not slow down.

brackley boy. i asked on another thread " was there a sc board shown, and were yellow flags waved". it appears that there was NO sc board (see earlier post) and there may have been NO waved yellow flags. watch the casual way that the safety car was waved on to the track. even if everything was done by the book, there is NO way the car should have pulled straight into the racing line. i presume that the driver was not an ex driver, such as used in F1. dtm etc

Just prior to posting I watched it on u tube. They clearly pass two waved yellow flags and SC Boards.

One before to the start line and one just at the start line.
