BUT Engstler should also have been travelling at a much slower speed as there were yellow flags & safety car boards displayed around the circuit.

"For Engstler's part, telemetry shows he did slow down significantly as he entered the opening corner and the FIA was satisfied he could have done nothing to avoid the safety car ahead of him."

Engstler was not in the wrong and the FIA agree.

Even if they had/hadn't released him properly there is no excuse for crossing the acceleration line, if he missed the first car having entered the circuit correctly he would wave them through until he picked up the leader that is standard procedure, he needn't try to jump in to catch him, it wouldn't matter! I'm interested to see if Engstler is compensated by the FIA... a claim against circuits etc has happened along while back by Brun in the group c at montreal when a 962 hit a broken manhole cover...

bit of a weird one this. nothing to do with the driver, he did nothing wrong. looks like a breakdown in communications as well as apparently a quite daft driver behind the safety car

have to agree with rob also that fault in this case lies clearly at safety car drivers door, what was he thinking of when he drove into the path of Franz Engslter, what an idiot. I think better communication is need between everyone involved so that this never happens again. Also I would like for the FIA to try and make there rules a bit more clearer to unstand and to try and stop this handing out of penalties if the driver exceeds his engine speed limit, its not the driver fault if when, say for instance changes down a gear you cant really do anything to stop the engine revs from rocketing (apart from braking). Come on FIA stop trying to make WTCC like F1 with all these rules.

Those SC drivers are Max Mosleys hook searchers.

MM should be fired and out of FIA.

He is causing all that troubles by engaging from his orgy team members...

rob, sincere apologies, you are right and i was totally confused. i was thinking of further in the race with menu and farfus being at the head of the field. but i still believe that the safety car was not released properly. as i have said and another poster has agreed, there was only a casual wave frm the pit exit marshal, and it was the fault of the release instructions (as confirmed by fia) AND very poor driving by the SC driver. it shows the need for professional SC drivers!

rob, there is another point. this was on the second lap, and despite the closeness of all the cars, the safety car managed to come out in front of englster, meaning that another car must have just passed by. therefore the driver would have known that he was entering the track IN THE MIDDLE of the field. he should of course have waited for the tail end charlie to pass, so he could pick up the leader.
