Russian Bears Motorsport has been given permission to compete in the opening European round of the World Touring Car Championship at Valencia although neither Jaap van Lagen nor Viktor Shapovalov will be eligible to score championship points.
After an encouraging run from Dutchman van Lagen during Friday testing at the wheel of the new Lada 110, both drivers were forced to sit out first free practice when it was found that the intake and outlet ports on the cylinder head of the car didn't confirm to homologation papers.
With the rest of the field giving permission for the team to continue, van Lagen and Shapovalov both hit the track in the second practice session, with van Lagen 20th overall and fourth Independent.
While he then qualified in 21st place, Shapovalov failed to post a time which left him outside the qualification maxima following the session.
Although the team will effectively now run in a guest capacity for the remainder of the weekend, adjustments are set to be made to the two Ladas ahead of the event in Pau in two weeks to bring them inline with the required homologation forms.
