Defending champion Andy Priaulx will hope to really kick-start his World Touring Car Championship challenge this weekend as the series heads to Pau for the fourth round of the year.

The BMW Team UK man has scored just two podium finishes in the opening six races of the year, with a second place finish in race two in Brazil being followed by a third place in round six in Valencia last time out.

However, with just a single point to his name from the second meeting of the year in Mexico, Priaulx heads to France 14 points behind current championship leader Gabriele Tarquini and eager to try and take his first win of the year.

"Considering our results in the previous events, I hope we shall be able to turn the tables in Pau," he said, "and I'm confident, as I shall travel to France with clearly less handicap weight on board my car than I had last year.

"Overtaking in Pau is really difficult. Therefore, a good grid position is particularly important there."

Fellow BMW drivers Felix Porteiro and Alex Zanardi will also hope to run well in France, with the latter looking to try and score points for the first time this year.

"The second race in Pau last year was fun," the Italian said. "From the back of the grid I managed to improve lap by lap. However, I finished in the thankless ninth position. The same as on all street circuits, overtaking is difficult in France. But there are some sections of the track where it's worth having a try."

Porteiro meanwhile hasn't troubled the scorers since finishing third in race two at Curitiba back in March but having scored in Pau last year, the Spaniard said he was confident of adding to his tally.

"In Pau last year I drove in my maiden WTCC race on a street circuit - and made it into the points at my first attempt," he said. "In the second race I was even in reach of a podium finish. After my disappointing home races in Spain, I'm quite happy with the rather short break between the two events."
