Alain Menu says he is still focused on as strong race day in Pau despite crashing out of qualifying for the latest rounds of the World Touring Car Championship season.
Menu, who won the second race of the weekend in Valencia last time out for his first victory of the 2008 campaign, was looking to try and repeat the form that saw him take pole and a victory in the French city last season but instead found himself spending much of the session watching on the sidelines.
Indeed the Swiss star managed just six laps before a mistake saw him make contact with the unforgiving barriers and with damage to his suspension he had no option but to return to the pits.
Luckily for the Chevrolet man, he only slipped to eleventh on the times and said he felt confident of having a strong result on race day.
“On my fastest lap everything looked very good in the first two sectors as I improved in both,” he said. “Then in the tiny chicane I hit the concrete kerbs on the left, bounced off into the tyre barriers on the right which in turn shot me off into the Armco on the left, damaging the rear left suspension.
“It's a shame because I could have been right up there. Still, I'm surprised that with the time there was still left in the session I didn't drop further back than eleventh, so anything could happen. Having started last in Valencia two weeks ago and going on to win the second race, I think I could still score some serious points...”
