Augusto Farfus repeated his victory of twelve months ago at Pau to secure his first win of the 2008 World Touring Car Championship season.
The Brazilian started the opening race of the weekend from pole position after stealing top spot late in the qualifying session and maintained the lead at the start of the race before it was stopped following an accident.
After the restart, he was able to pull out a lead and took victory by almost 20 seconds ahead of Yvan Muller, with his fastest race lap being over a second quicker than anyone else.
A sixth place finish in race two meant the Brazilian picked up 13 points from the weekend to climb into the top ten in the championship standings heading to the next round in Brno later in the month.
“I am very happy with the race win for BMW, the guys in the team were fantastic and it allowed me to be fast,” he said. “I was able to push really hard for the first third of the race but it took a lot of concentration. When I had the information about the red flag I was surprised. When we restarted under the safety car everything went fine.
“As the start of the season didn't run as we had hoped for, I'm obviously very happy with this victory. It's great finally to be back on the podium and to score points again.”
