James Thompson has secured his best qualifying result to date with the N.Technology Honda Accord after taking seventh on the grid for the latest round of the World Touring Car Championship at Brno.
Thompson ran as high as second at the wheel of the JAS Motorsport developed car in qualifying for only its third race weekend in N.Technology colours, but hit traffic on his quickest lap which meant he slipped back to the fourth row of the grid.
That still marked the first time this season that the Honda has qualified inside the top ten on the grid, leaving Thompson to look ahead to a strong race day.
"Seventh place is a very good reward for the work the team has put in behind the scenes,” he said. “Breaking into the top ten is a very big achievement when you look at how much opposition there is and it's a sign of the progress we're making. But in a way I'm still a bit disappointed because we lost a couple of positions because of traffic and also a yellow flag.
“On my last lap I got blocked by Zanardi and without that I think we could have been on the third row. But we're in the fight for points and the reverse grid front-row for race two; we've proved we've got the pace to be well inside the top ten in qualifying."
