Gabriele Tarquini was forced to spend a night in hospital for medical checks after being involved in a collision with Felix Porteiro at the start of the second World Touring Car race at Imola.

Tarquini stalled at the start of the race and was rear-ended heavily by an unsighted Porteiro, causing considerable damage to both cars.

Tarquini was taken to the medical centre for preliminary X-Rays, but while he was deemed to be unhurt, it was recommended that he spend a night in local hospital for precaution.

Despite the ferocity of the impact, Tarquini is expected to fit in time to compete on home ground at Monza in two weeks time. Porteiro was unharmed.
