Andy Priaulx admitted he was disappointed to only manage eleventh on the grid for the World Touring Car Championship race weekend in Japan.

The defending champion had hoped to follow the lead of BMW Team Germany driver Augusto Farfus, who has been the man to beat throughout the course of the weekend at the Okayama circuit.

However, the 30 minute qualifying session proved to be a somewhat frustrating time for the Guernseyman as two of his quickest laps were spoiled - one by a spin for Matthew Marsh and one by traffic.

As a result, he was only able to post the eleventh quickest time at a circuit where BMW appears to have the edge.

"I never like to make excuses but here things just conspired against me," he said. "I was on a good lap when a car went off and caused the yellow flags to come out, and then on my next attempt traffic played its part again.

"The car was good at the start of the weekend, and I just want to find that speed again, as from the results it seems this could be a BMW track."
