Farfus again in final practice

Augusto Farfus continued to dominate proceedings at Macau with the quickest time in the final practice session for the final rounds of the World Touring Car Championship.

Farfus had set the pace in Thursday testing around the challenging street circuit and was then quickest in Friday's opening practice session at the wheel of his BMW Team Germany 320si.

Completing a clean-sweep of the times, Farfus managed to edge out team-mate Jorg Muller in the final practice session of the weekend, with a best time of 2min 32.786secs putting him less than a tenth of a second ahead of the German.

Muller posted his time on 2min 32.830secs early in the session on his first flying lap before the red flag was thrown when Tom Coronel went off at Mandarin in the SUNRED SEAT Leon.

Moments after the session was resumed Franz Engstler – who had set the Independents' pace in the first practice – spun at Moorish Hill, while Farfus brushed the barrier at the Lisboa bend although the only damage to the BMW was the loss of a wing mirror.

Muller's provisional fastest lap survived the attempts of Alain Menu but was eventually beaten by Farfus with only one minute left. Menu ultimately had to settle for third place ahead of James Thompson, with Nicola Larini and champion in waiting Yvan Muller completing the top six. Muller's only title rival, Gabriele Tarquini, was twelfth quickest.

His car repaired after the first practice accident, Sergio Hernandez topped the Independents in 15th position overall, ahead of Japanese drivers Takayuki Aoki and Manabu Orido.

Just before the chequered flag put an end to the session, Matthew Marsh crashed his Wiechers-Sport BMW at the Lisboa bend.
