After asking you to vote for your leading drivers from the World Touring Car Championship season, the time has come to start the count-down to the driver you voted the top star of 2008.

Over the next five weekdays, we will be revealing the top ten in reverse order, with two drivers being revealed each day.

After asking you to give each driver a mark out of ten for their performances during the season, each drivers average score was calculated to decide the winner.

So today, fourth and third place...

WTCC Driver of the Year – Fourth place:

For the first time since the World Touring Car Championship replaced the ETCC, Andy Priaulx ended the season without a championship crown – but the BMW man didn't give up his crown without a fight.

Although ultimately unable to take the fight to the diesel-powered SEATs, Priaulx took to the podium on newer than nine occasions during the course of the year although there was to be only one victory – which came on the streets of Pau.

The season started well in Brazil with a fourth and a second place, but even then it was apparent that the Guernseyman would face a challenge to retain his title as SEAT took both wins. However, Priaulx refused to give up the fight, even though things didn't always go his way – such as in Germany where he was unceremoniously taken off by Gabriele Tarquini.

Having ended the season as one of the form drivers – with four podiums from the final six races – Priaulx will hope to return to championship winning ways in 2009 while he could also feature in the ALMS, where BMW will run its new M3 GT2 with the Rahal Letterman team.

Rob Huff himself wouldn't have expected to be a championship challenger after the first race weekend of the WTCC season in Brazil where the Briton failed to score in either race. Mexico wasn't much better as again Huff failed to trouble the scorers, but the return to Europe saw the Briton hit form – with a first win of the year in Valencia and another podium finish from the second race of the Spanish weekend.

While the season from that point would include its disappointments, most notably on home soil at Brands Hatch where a late puncture cost him a certain win, Huff became something of a model of consistency as he regularly brought his Lacetti home in the points.

In the final two rounds of the year, Huff came close to snatching second in the standings from Gabriele Tarquini but ultimately fell short by just a single point – despite taking the final WTCC win for the Lacetti in the second race at Macau.

Having established himself as a championship contender, Huff will now be focused on going for the title in 2009 with Chevrolet's new Cruze model.
