Priaulx out to re-write BMW form book

22 March 2009

Andy Priaulx is keen to prove BMW can be competitive at Puebla as he joined team-mate Augusto Farfus in locking out the front row for the second round of the World Touring Car Championship.

BMW have historically struggled at previous events held in Mexico, with the wins being shared by Alfa Romeo and SEAT in 2005, 2006 and 2008, but Farfus' run to pole position stands them in much better stead than usual.

With Priaulx's best result at Puebla a mere seventh place in 2006, the former champion is in a good position to build on that after claiming a front row slot – only the second time he has done so since midway through his 2007 title winning year.

“The car was quick straight out of the box on Friday when we did the first test here in Mexico. I was delighted as usually when I start the weekend with a good car I finish with one. Also the track's surface is the best I have seen here in four visits. They have obviously put a new surface down as last year it broke up and it was a bit like driving on ice.

“I was delighted to be second quickest as early as the first test on Friday. This has never been a good track for BMW but I am quite happy to see that situation has changed.”
