Muller not expecting Puebla win

23 March 2009

Yvan Muller admits he was surprised to come away with victory in the second World Touring Car race of the weekend in Puebla after resisting intense pressure from Andy Priaulx.

A successful weekend for SEAT following Rickard Rydell's win in the first race, Muller, who finished fourth in the first race too, fought his way to victory from fifth on the grid after making a strong start and capitalising on a clash for Gabriele Tarquini and Jorg Muller ahead of him.

Although Muller would be shadowed by a charging Priaulx in the latter stages of the race, he remained faultless to hold on for a second win of the season.

“It's been a perfect weekend,” he said. “We had a difficult qualifying but the team made an excellent job which allowed us to be in great shape. The fourth place of the first race was good, but I did not expect to win the second.

“Priaulx had me under constant pressure and I focused on not making a single mistake. Everything worked perfectly.”
