Thompson to race Honda in Denmark
27 March 2009
James Thompson will race in the Danish Touring Car Championship in 2009 after signing a new contract with the Hartmann Honda team.
The former British Touring Car Champion and four-time World Touring Car race winner has been the subject of speculation during the off-season after N.Technology announced their withdrawal from the WTCC.
However, while tests with Motorbase BMW, Dynamics Honda and Tempus Chevrolet suggested he could be BTCC bound this year, it is in Denmark where he will compete in 2009.
A return to the series for Thompson, who raced in the DTCC alongside his WTCC commitments last season, team owner Hans Hartmann is hopeful he can challenge for the title at the wheel of a Honda Accord in 2009.
”We were very happy to work with James last year, and he really also enjoyed being part of the team, so it was quite natural for both parties to work towards a new agreement for the coming season, and we have succeeded in doing that,” team owner Hans Hartmann says.
”The Hondas will be racing with all the updates and the same specifications that where developed for the Accord cars through the whole last WTCC season.
“Our new engine developer has promised us an improved power plant, and in comparison to the set-up that we ended last season with, we have made a significant step forward, so now the rivals need to up their games.”
