Bennani prepares for Morocco bow

Mehdi Bennani has had his first taste of the World Touring Car Championship after completing his first laps in a tin-top machine during a test at Magny-Cours.

The Moroccon driver will make his series debut during his home event around the streets of Marrakech when the WTCC ventures into Africa for the first time next month.

Set to drive an Exagon Engineering prepared SEAT Leon, Bennani will run in the red, white and green colours of the Moroccan Tourism Office.

Joined at the test by championship leader, and brother of Exagon team manager Cathy Muller, Yvan Muller, the team were impressed with Bennani's performance.

“Yvan was very generous in giving Mehdi advice,” said team principal Luc Marchetti. “I have to say that we were all impressed by the way this young driver was able to quickly adapt himself to the car and also by the interesting feedback he gave.

“Obviously it will take some times to be competitive in such a tough championship, but I'm sure Mehdi has the potential to do well.”
