Double European Touring Car Cup champion Michael Nykjaer is planning to return the Chevrolet Lacetti to the World Touring Car grid in 2009 with a handful of appearances.
The Dane won the 2007 edition of the European race driving a SEAT Leon before repeating victory at Salzburg last year with the Chevrolet Denmark team.
He is now finalising talks to take the team to the WTCC this season, in addition to their commitments in the Danish Touring Car Championship, where he is hoping his success in the ETC will ensure he is a competitive privateer entry.
“That was a one off deal, but after we won the race the team and I started negotiations for the 2009 Danish Touring Car championship. It took some times to finalize everything, but now we are ready for the season. The Chevrolet is a car that suits me, and I am confident that I will be competitive.
“We won the European cup together and we are certain that we could do well in the WTCC. Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark have a very tight cooperation with Chevrolet's WTCC team, and I am hoping that we could join a few WTCC events, which are not in clash with the Danish races.”
Nykjaer raced for WTCC driver Kristian Poulsen's eponymous team in the DTC last year.
